LINZ, AUSTRIA / EuroWire / — IONO Robotics has introduced Workmate, a humanoid robot developed in Austria for industrial, manufacturing and logistics environments, marking the public debut of the Linz based startup’s autonomous robot platform. The company presented the system at Tabakfabrik Linz on May 26, 2026, describing it as a purpose built humanoid robot for real workplaces rather than controlled laboratory settings.

Workmate is designed for repetitive, physically demanding and operationally simple tasks in production facilities, warehouses and industrial sites. IONO Robotics says the robot can move, interact and act autonomously in work environments where companies need flexible automation. The system is being positioned for applications in manufacturing, logistics and areas involving dangerous or repetitive activities.

The company’s public materials describe IONO Robotics as Austria’s first startup focused on humanoid robotics. The Austrian business platform Advantage Austria lists iono FlexCo as a provider of humanoid robots for industrial applications, hazardous work areas and logistics processes. The company is headquartered in Linz and operates under the IONO Robotics brand.

    Built for industrial settings

IONO Robotics says its platform combines precision mechanics with artificial intelligence software for use in existing work environments. The company has identified IonoSphere as its AI based software suite for controlling and integrating robotic systems. The platform is presented as modular, scalable and intended for use by industrial companies seeking autonomous robotic systems for production, storage and logistics operations.

The company has also described its humanoid system as adaptable through modular components and multiple mobility variants. Its own product information lists more than 20 sensors and 2026 delivery for its IONO V1 platform. Workmate has been presented as part of the same industrial robotics direction, with emphasis on safety, reliability and operation outside demonstration only settings.

    Pilot work and production plans

IONO Robotics said it plans initial practical use with pilot customers after the product launch phase. The company’s partner materials state that it is seeking industrial companies, integrators and sales organizations in the DACH region and wider Europe for the introduction of humanoid robots. It identifies manufacturing, logistics and dangerous or repetitive work as the main application fields for its systems.

The launch places IONO Robotics within Europe’s expanding humanoid robotics sector, where companies are testing machines for tasks that combine mobility, perception and workplace interaction. For Austria, the presentation of Workmate gives the country a visible entry in industrial humanoid robotics, led by a Linz based company using Austrian engineering and software for autonomous workplace systems.
