ATHENS, Greece / RankWire.AI / – The United Arab Emirates is set to increase its investments in Greece by a further €15 billion, as part of a collaborative investment strategy between the two nations. This development was announced on October 22 during the official visit of Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, to Athens. The new pledge complements a €4 billion initiative launched in May 2022, with the goal of strengthening economic and strategic relations.

According to the Abu Dhabi Media Office, this expansion aims to enhance cooperation across sectors deemed strategic and vital for development by both countries. The initial initiative provided a framework to facilitate joint investments in areas of mutual interest, resulting in significant deals in energy and healthcare sectors. Officials indicated that these successes demonstrate the partnership’s potential to convert economic prospects into concrete investments. The additional funds serve to build upon that existing foundation.
During the visit, Sheikh Khaled met with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the Prime Minister’s Office in Athens. The leaders explored avenues to strengthen collaboration in energy, infrastructure, healthcare, and advanced technology. They also discussed regional and global issues, emphasizing the importance of bolstering security, peace, and stability. Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis greeted the Crown Prince upon his arrival at Athens International Airport, highlighting the ongoing development of bilateral relations.
Strategic Forum Secures €12.75 Billion in New Agreements
The visit coincided with the UAE-Greece Strategic Forum held in Athens, during which agreements and commercial collaborations exceeding €12.75 billion were signed between UAE and Greek entities. These encompass digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, industry, logistics, ports, healthcare, life sciences, and food security. It is important to note that the forum’s agreements are distinct from the €15 billion investment plan. Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis participated in the forum alongside senior officials from both governments.
UAE Minister of Foreign Trade Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi remarked that the agreements and the new investment goal reflect increasing confidence between the two economies. He emphasized that the next step is translating this momentum into actionable projects. Al Zeyoudi described the UAE as a hub for trade, investment, and connectivity, while also citing Greece as a gateway to Europe. Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Haris Theoharis also took part in the event.
Greece Positioned as a Bridge to European Markets
The UAE’s decision to expand its investment footprint in Greece underscores its trust in Greece’s economic potential and strategic position. The country’s role as a connector between European markets and regional and international hubs was highlighted as a key factor. The enlarged initiative aims to foster cooperation among investment institutions and companies from both nations, supporting innovation and the exchange of expertise and knowledge. Ultimately, it seeks to unlock new pathways for investment growth.
This announcement aligns with the UAE’s broader strategy to establish long-term investment alliances across Europe. In September, the UAE revealed a €40 billion investment package for Germany across multiple sectors, and has intensified discussions with other European nations such as Italy. Officials noted that Greece’s initiative marks the beginning of a new phase of collaboration that extends beyond mere financial commitments.
